Things to do in Dubrovnik when it rains: museums, the Dubrovnik Pass and what closes
Most of Dubrovnik is outdoors, so a wet day needs a plan. Here is what stays open, what it costs in 2026, and what shuts down when the bura or jugo blows.
Short answer
Stay under a roof in the Old Town museums: Rector's Palace, the Maritime Museum, the Franciscan Monastery and its old pharmacy, War Photo Limited and the Museum of Modern Art. A 1-day Dubrovnik Pass costs 40 EUR, the same as a City Walls ticket alone, and adds Rector's Palace and the other included museums plus a 24-hour city bus ticket. Outside the walls, the Red History Museum and a craft brewery in Gruž, an escape room at DOC and the cinema in Lapad are all indoors. Lokrum boats do not run in bad weather and the cable car stops in strong wind or lightning.
Start with the Dubrovnik Pass
On a wet day the Pass does two jobs: it covers most Old Town museums and it includes a city bus ticket for getting to Gruž or Lapad.

A City Walls adult ticket alone costs 40,00 EUR on the official walls shop, so the 1-day Pass costs the same and throws in the museums and the bus. Not included: War Photo Limited, the Red History Museum, the Dominican Monastery, the Cathedral treasury and the aquarium.
What reviewers say: City Walls reviewers in July to September 2026 repeatedly say they bought the 40 EUR Pass instead of a walls ticket at the same price, and one August 2026 reviewer notes a Pass gives only one walls entry.
Old Town museums under a roof
All within a few minutes of Stradun, so you only get wet between doors. Note the weekly closing days.

Franciscan Monastery and the old pharmacy

Churches, the cathedral treasury and a wine bar
Good for sitting out a shower. Churches are working churches, so visits pause during Mass.
Church of St Blaise

Dubrovnik Cathedral and treasury

Dominican Monastery and museum

A Gothic cloister with orange and lemon trees and a small museum of religious art with a Titian. Quieter than the Franciscans. Not included in the Pass.

D'vino Wine Bar

Croatian wine flights and cheese and ham boards in a side street off Stradun. Much of the seating is outside in the alley, so ask for a table inside when it pours.

Gruž and Lapad: out of the rain, away from the crowds
The Pass bus ticket covers the ride. The Red History Museum and the brewery are a short walk apart in Gruž; the escape room and the cinema are in Lapad.

A craft brewery taproom with beer flights, food and brewery tours, and a natural second stop after the Red History Museum. It has moved away from the harbour front, so check the address before you go.

Two rooms themed on Game of Thrones and on Dubrovnik legends. DOC closes on Sundays and public holidays, but the operator says one entrance usually stays open for players. Book ahead.

CineStar cinema, Dvori Lapad

The city's only multiplex is in Dvori Lapad, not in the DOC centre. Check the language note on each screening before you buy; family films may be dubbed.
What closes in bad weather
Rain alone rarely shuts anything, but wind and storms do. Check these before you set off.
Lokrum boats

- Boats from the city harbour 09:00 to 17:00, every 30 minutes after 10:00; the last boat back leaves Lokrum at 18:00

Lokrum is an outdoor nature reserve, so it is a poor rainy-day plan even when boats run. If the forecast is wet, save it for the next dry morning.
Dubrovnik Cable Car

On a wet, windy day the view from Srđ is gone anyway. The last departure from the lower station is 30 minutes before closing.

The operator publishes no rain-closure rule; its code of conduct simply says to check the forecast and wear suitable shoes. The polished stone gets slippery after a shower and there is no shelter on top, so walk them on the dry half of the day.

Bura and jugo: reading Dubrovnik weather
- Jugo is the warm, humid south-easterly. It brings the long grey rainy spells and the low mood locals joke about; plan a museum day.
- Bura is the cold, dry north-easterly. It often comes with clear skies, but its gusts can stop the cable car even when it is sunny.
- Storms can switch fast: on 3 June 2026 an orange warning saw jugo turn into north-westerly gusts over 65 km/h, and flash flooding hit Kantafig near the Gruž bus station.
- Strong bura restricts the Franjo Tuđman bridge for buses with upper decks, trailers and motorcycles, and has diverted flights (as on 22 September 2026). Check HAK before driving in or out.
- Check the DHMZ warnings map on the morning you plan Lokrum, the cable car or a boat trip, and keep the museums as your fallback.
Good to know
Buy the Pass for the walls, get the museums free
A walls ticket and a 1-day Pass both cost 40 EUR, so if you want the walls on the dry day and museums on the wet one, a 3-day Pass (50 EUR) covers both.
Watch the closing days
The Maritime Museum closes on Wednesdays, the Museum of Modern Art on Mondays, and in winter the Rector's Palace closes on Mondays. War Photo Limited shuts completely from November to March.
Wear shoes with grip, not your best sandals
Stradun's polished limestone is slippery after even a short shower, and in wind an umbrella is more trouble than a hooded jacket.
Do Gruž in one go
The Red History Museum and the Dubrovnik Beer Company are a short walk apart near the Gruž harbour, and Touch of Thai is just above. The Pass includes a city bus ticket for the ride.
Showers often pass by the afternoon
Summer and autumn rain in Dubrovnik often comes as heavy bursts that clear later, while longer wet spells cluster from October to May. Keep the walls and Lokrum flexible.

Reviews are poor: Tripadvisor showed 2.7 (400 reviews) on 29 Sep 2026, with 2025 visitors complaining about small, dirty tanks for the price. There is no reliable official page with 2026 hours or prices, so check at the door or pick another museum.
Is there a cinema in Dubrovnik?
Yes, CineStar in Dvori Lapad (Masarykov put 3c), with three screens. It is not in the DOC shopping centre.
What are bura and jugo?
Jugo is the warm, wet south-easterly that brings the rainy spells; bura is the cold, dry north-easterly with strong gusts. Bura can stop the cable car and restrict the bridge even on a sunny day.

- we-du-yoga: the studio at DOC renamed itself Zen & Zest in 2025 (its own site says so); the site shows no 2026-dated schedule or prices, so it is not on the page. The listing name may need updating.
- haunted-dubrovnik: an outdoor evening walking tour (25 EUR, Tue and Fri in season per its site), not a rainy-day activity, and no 2026-dated evidence was read.
- Dubrovnik Sea Aquarium as a recommendation: Tripadvisor 2.7 with animal-welfare complaints, latest reviews from 2025, and no official 2026 hours or price (guides say about 8 or 10 EUR). Mentioned only in the FAQ as a caution.
- Franciscan Monastery museum ticket price: the Pass FAQ says 6,00 EUR but the same FAQ quotes an outdated 35 EUR walls price, and a June 2026 reviewer mentions about 15 EUR; no official 2026 price read.
- Dominican Monastery official hours and price: no official page read; only a June 2026 reviewer price is given.
- Dubrovnik Beer Company hours and brewery tour price: sources conflict (11:00 vs 14:00 opening; tour 50 EUR vs 61.72 EUR via resellers) and the brewery site did not resolve.
- Touch of Thai 1-hour prices: only one treatment price was readable on the booking page.
- Cathedral treasury official price: the parish site posts hours as an image only; the treasury fee is given as a reported range.
- Cooking classes: no operator with a 2026-dated schedule and price was confirmed.
- Cafés such as Cogito Coffee (outdoor benches only) and Cafe Festival (2026 reviews split on prices): not strong rainy-day picks.
- Homeland War Museum at Fort Imperial: it is on the 10-museum ticket but sits on Srđ, reached by the cable car that stops in wind.
- Claims that the walls close in storms: no official rule or 2026 news report found.
