Lovrijenac Fort

Lovrijenac Fort, also called St. Lawrence fort, is a triangular-shaped fort detached from city walls, situated just outside the western wall of the city. A famous quotation carved in stone above the entrance to the fortress states, "Non Bene Pro Toto Libertas Venditur Auro" ("Freedom cannot be exchanged for all the gold of the world").

Walls of the fort facing the sea are up to 12m thick, while those facing Dubrovnik Town are much slimmer at only about 60cm. It was intentionally built so that if the Fort was taken by an enemy, it could be easily demolished from the city walls and Fort Bokar.

Lovrijenac fort is 37 meters high and offers one of the best panoramic views in Dubrovnik, today it also serves as a venue for concerts, theater events, and weddings. Game of Thrones fans got a reason more to come, as this fort appeared in numerous scenes, among being used as a double for the Red keep in the famous tv-series.
