Žarkovica Animal Shelter

This animal shelter was founded in 2004. By Sandra Sambrailo, women who dedicated life to its cause. It is located on top of the Žarkovica hill, with a magnificent panoramic view overlooking the Old Town area. The shelter was built entirely by volunteers, using whatever resources they might find, and it is entirely dependent on them and the generous donations it receives from people all over the world.

The average number of dogs in the shelter is around 300. All dogs are regularly vaccinated, microchipped, and castrated. The volunteers are also taking care of over 200 abandoned or injured cats, and some other wild animals as well.

If you visit Žarkovica, you will undoubtedly be welcomed by a large number of happy dogs eager to be petted and play with you.
Volunteers spend 24 hours a day with the dogs and they are all very well socialized, friendly, and ready for adoption.

You can even take them for a leash walk around the hill, they will certainly appreciate it.

If you fall in love with a dog or a cat, it is possible to bring it to your country home with you, as they all have passports, and the team from the shelter are happy to assist with finding a suitable transport company and arranging all necessary vet work.
